Practicing Tibetan BuddhismPortland Shambhala Meditation Center |
The Portland Shambhala Meditation Center is a meditation practice and study center established in accordance with the vision of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche. Through Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche and Shambhala International in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the center is affiliated with over a hundred Shambhala Centers worldwide.
Programs and studies offered at the Center fall under one of three categories (called Gates):
The Buddhist Gate which focuses on the 2500 year old teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha and the commentaries and further teachings of Tibetan Buddhist masters of the Kagyu and Nyingma lineages.
The Shambhala Gate which offers a secular path of spiritual training. The Shambhala Training path is one of fearless and gentle action in the world; it is open to people who follow any spiritual tradition or who have chosen no particular spiritual tradition.
The Nalanda Gate which presents contemplative arts; varied secular disciplines and activities that integrate the arts, health, education and business.
Individual meditation instruction and group meditation practice are available to everyone without charge on most Sunday mornings (9 am) and Tuesday evenings (7 pm). We are also open most Thursday evenings at 7 pm. Beginners are welcome.
