Practicing Zen BuddhismZen Community of Oregon & Great Vow Zen Monastery |
Zen Community of Oregon (ZCO) is a zen practice center based in Portland, Oregon. ZCO is affiliated with Soto Zen lineage of Taizan Maezumi Roshi and the Rinzai Zen lineage of Shodo Harada Roshi.
Great Vow Zen Monastery (in Clatskanie, OR) began with the vow of the late Maezumi Roshi to plant the seeds of the Dharma so firmly in the west that they would never die out. Our teacher Jan Chozen Bays, a dharma heir of Maezumi Roshi, has dedicated her life to help fulfill this vision. In 1985 she began leading a small meditation group in her home in Portland. As the need arose she began to give dharma talks, guide students and lead intensive silent retreats.
Evening practice and a beginners class are offered free of charge on Thursday evenings from 7:30 pm until 9:00 pm. City practice is held at the Portland Dharma Center at 2514 SE Madison, Portland, OR. A Sunday program of service and zazen is also offered at the Portland Dharma Center from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm.
For more information, please consult the Weekly Practice page of the ZCO's Web site.
